The course will help students to get familiar with advanced topics in linguistics, especially syntax, semantics, and pragmatics, but also psycholinguistics, stylistics, sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics. Most topics will be addressed from the perspective of traditional linguistics and, where appropriate, also from the formal perspective of mathematics and computer science. The course is centered around the discussion of important linguistic papers and books.
