Practical introduction into the modelling of geophysical problems using software ASPECT. We will solve for example: thermal convection, lithospheric deformation, melting and two-phase flow; in different geometries and for different rheologies. Individual work: model adjustments, tests of resolution, accuracy and performance; postprocessing. Installation and modifications of ASPECT for more advanced modelling. Basic knowledge of continuum mechanics is expected.
Aim of the course -
Last update: prof. RNDr. František Gallovič, Ph.D. (22.04.2022)
Student will be able to model simple geophysical problems in the ASPECT software (https://aspect.geodynamics.org), display and interpret the output, and creatively solve emerging problems.
Course completion requirements -
Last update: prof. RNDr. František Gallovič, Ph.D. (22.04.2022)

Student is required to solve several simple and one larger assignments. The assessment may include active participation in the exercises, but submitting the required work without participating in the exercises is also possible.
