Thematic cartography, its definition and development, thematic map, its definition and diference from topographic map. Clasification of thematic map. Interval and diagram scales, keys of thematic map. Language of map, cartographic symbol, its function, parameters and aspects of localization, cartographic signatures, their clasification and use. Cartographic methods of presentation and their use on the maps. Computer-assisted cartography in thematic mapping.

Přednáška doplňuje a upřesňuje výuku předmětu Kartografie o problematiku a zásady konstrukce tematických map s důrazem na praktické zvládnutí jednotlivých kartografických vyjadřovacích prostředků.

Podmínkou získání zápočtu je konstrukce dvou map podle zadání a dále vypracování, prezentace, oponentura a vypracování textu k velké mapě formátu A1 na téma dle výběru studenta.

Teoretickou náplň předmětu tvoří: tematická kartografie, tvorba a zásady tvorby tematických map, druhy tematických map, legenda tematických map, rastr v tematickém obsahu - kvalitativní/kvantitativní rozlišení jevů, intervaly velikostních stupnic, hodnotová měřítka, kartogramy, kartodiagramy, kartografická anamorfóza.
