The course concerns with high-impact weather phenomena such as heat waves, frosts, lightning, strong winds, heavy rains, hail, snowstorms etc. The phenomena are considered as anomalies in meteorological variables, connected with atmospheric processes on various spatial as well as temporal scales. Following aspects of the phenomena will be presented: definition and possible classification, causes, impacts and preventive measures, monitoring and prediction, evaluation of extreme events, geographical and temporal distribution.

After each lecture, students will be provided with slides, which contain pictures and English and Czech terms with links to their explanations in meteorological glossaries. To prepare for the exam, just create notes from lectures. For each phenomenon, slides also contain references to other literature, which is intended for those interested in a deeper understanding or in case of absence from the lecture.

Requirements to the exam -
