It is focused on their geology, genesis, mineralogy, world and local distribution, consumption trends and use in industry. Includes also review of prospecting, exploration and mining methods and of various aspects of mine reclamation and remediation.

Overview of nonrenewable natural resources. Genesis of mineral deposits: plate tectonics and mineral deposits, magmatic, metamorphic, sedimentary and weathering-related deposits, metallic and nonmetallic ores, fossil fuels, construction materials.

Prospecting and exploration of mineral deposits, introduction to reserves calculation.

Mine wastes, recultivation of mines.
