Origin of fluid inclusions, their genetic and descriptive classifications Basic principles of thermometric analysis: aqueous H2O-salt systems, non-aqueous CO2-CH4-N2 systems and mixed H2O-salt-CO2 systems. Interpretation and presentation of thermometric data. Chemical analysis of fluid inclusions. Melt inclusions. Course is recommended for all geology students (starting with the 5th semester). Lecture includes basic theoretical principles and practical training in fluid inclusion studies, data collecting and interpretation.

1. Overview of individual lecture topics and of application of fluid inclusion studies in geology. History of fluid inclusion research. Genetic and descriptive principles of fluid inclusion classifications. Fluid inclusion morphology and formation mechanisms. Homogeneous and heterogeneous trapping conditions.

2. Introduction to microthermometry (heating-freezing stages, instrument calibration, homogenization and cryogenic techniques).

3. Aqueous systems (H2O, H2O-NaCl, H2O-NaCl-KCl, H2O-NaCl-CaCl2) - application and interpretation of microthermometric data.

4. Modes of fluid inclusion homogenization. Introduction to gaseous systems (CO2, CH4, CO2-CH4, CO2-N2).

6. Aqueous-carbonic (H2O-CO2, H2O-CO2-NaCl) system I.: Interpretation of microthermometric data, phase topology.

7. Aqueous-carbonic (H2O-CO2, H2O-CO2-NaCl) system II.: fluid unmixing.

8. Presentation of microthermometric data, fluid isochores, basic equations of state, software applications, estimation of trapping conditions.

9. Application of fluid inclusions in study of hydrothermal systems.

10. Application of fluid inclusions in study of magmatic and metamorphic systems.

11. Application of fluid inclusions in study of sedimentary and diagenetic systems.

12. Advanced methods of fluid inclusion studies. Melt inclusions.
