The subject is focused on teaching of high school Biochemistry from the perspective of a student - a future chemistry teacher. It reveals problematic sections of biochemistry education. It presents a wide range of didactic materials, models and some selected school experiments.

Student:

solves the most difficult topics of high school chemistry (photosynthesis, respiratory chain (electron transport chain, proteosynthesis) and understands biochemical content.
get acquainted with selected activation methods and the didactic aids that can be used in teaching biochemistry
solves selected tasks from the chemical Olympiad (category of biochemistry) and critically assesses them.
compiles some models of natural substances (carbohydrates, proteins).

The main goal of this subject is to analyze individual chapters of high school Biochemistry, create suitable materials and present them.

Knowledge of secondary school biochemistry (Studiumbiochemie.natur.cuni.cz)
Active participation in the seminar.
The student prepares and presents an interesting and connected with everyday life for selected chapter from thehigh school biochemistry. Student will prepare his “presentation” by acting as a teacher and adapting the content to high school level. It is necessary to use the activation method.

  1. Introductory information (textbooks of secondary schools (biochemistry), professional biochemical books (Voet, etc.), internet resources (videos, animations), models, modern technologies (Discovery studio, PDB, chemsketch), FEP in relation to biochemistry, virtual observation.)
  2. History of organic chemistry and biochemistry
  3. Photosynthesis (problematic section from high school biochemistry) and didactics of photosynthesis
  4. Respiratory chain (problematic section from high school biochemistry) and didactics of respiratory chain
  5. NA and proteosynthesis (problematic section from high school biochemistry) and didactics of NA
  6. Natural substances I (demonstrations, models (carbohydrates), simple chemical experiments (sugars, vitamins ...))
  7. Natural substances II (models), simple chemical experiments (enzymes)
  8. Methodology TEMI, BOV, demonstration (starch)
  9. Problems from Chemical Olympiad (Biochemistry part)
