Bionics is an interdisciplinary field integrating knowledge of biology, cybernetics, chemistry, physics, mathematics, and technological sciences. The living systems and their parts are seen as technological constructions in which the structure-function relationship was precisely designed during evolution to execute specialized tasks. Specialized lecture on interdisciplinary field of biology, cybernetics, technological sciences, etc. Obligatory for neurobiology, facultative for animal physiology and other interested students of MSc degree. Course is recommended for 9th semester (winter terms) as a subsequent course for course "Neurobiology" (B150P36, 5th semester), course "Physiology of senses" (B150P28, 8th semestr) and course "Bioelectric phenomena and their mesurement" (P150P30, 6th semestr).

Object of study, development and division of bionics

Modeling as experimental method of bionics. Theory of model, modeling in bionics, comparative and experimental methods, system theory.

Elements of general bionics. Biological constructions, bioenergetics, biological information.

Electrical properties of cells, sensory and excitable systems.

Physiology of nerve cells and synapses, bioelectric events. Sensory receptors (chemoreceptors, thermoreceptors, photoreceptors, mechanoreceptors). Sensory modalities. Technological applications.

Modeling of neuronal activity. Mechanical models, electrical models, neuristor computers.

Theory of information in biology and technology. Information as a measurable quantity, signal function, transfer of information, information processing, biological communications.

Learning and intelligence in biology and technology. Conditioned reflexes, learning models, preceptrons.

Orientation of organisms in space and time. Concept of time and its measurement, biological time, perception of time and space in biological systems, radar, sonar.

Control and regulation in biology and technology. Biological regulatory circuits, dynamics of biological systems, systems with target behavior, adaptive systems, multilevel systems, organization and autoreproduction.

MOLECULAR ASPECTS IN BIONICS. Biotechnologies.

Bionics and medicine. Artificial organs (heart, lungs, kidney), auxiliary mechanisms of visual perception, hearing, speech. Prosthetics. Kyborgs.
