The 5-days course includes introductory lectures and individual practical works. Practical works include following: identification of the yeasts, mating of yeasts, sporulation, immobilization of cells, the production of extra-cellular proteins, killer phenotype, adhesion test, detection of copper level (yeast biosenzor), test of mutagenicity using S. cerevisiae strain.

The 5-days course includes introductory lectures (L) and individual practical works (P).

Day 1:
L: yeast taxonomy; yeast morphology; occurrence in nature; biotechnology applications
P: yeast colony morphology; yeast cell morphology, staining of the cell components (light microscopy); inoculation; yeast immobilization in alginate beads

Day 2:
L: mating; sporulation; cell cycle regulation; budding pattern       
P: mating and sporulation induction; cdc mutant strains (light microscopy);
    test of mutagenicity using S. cerevisiae

Day 3:
L: yeast cell metabolism
P: growth curve; static cultivation; carbohydrate fermentation test;
    yeast biosensor (copper detection)

Day 4: 
L: major yeast pathogens (identification,virulence factors,…)
P: chromoagar, Candida test; biofilms, adhesion test, invasive growth

Day 5:
L: killer phenomenon in yeasts; aging; autophagy
P: killer yeast identification; autophagy (fluorescence microscopy)
