Acquisiton of theoretical knowledge of clinical and radiation oncology

Aquisition of practical experience with decision – making in oncology, diagnostics and treatment of malignant tumors

Credit: The credit is given to the students who has fulfilled all lectures and practical claasses. In selected cases the absence can be substituted by special consultation and examination by the head of the department.

Lectures:

Epidemiology of cancer. Prevention and screening. Tumor diagnosis and TNM classification. Reporting of malignant neoplasms.

Organization of oncological care in the Czech Republic. Multidisciplinary teams.

Principles of multimodality cancer treatment. Curative and palliative treatment.

Standard and experimental clinical procedures. Clinical studies.

Biology and etiology of tumors.

Supportive treatment in oncology.

Chemotherapy and hormonal treatment

Brachytherapy

Diagnostics and treatment of breast tumors

Biological and immunological treatment

Adverse effects of systemic anticancer therapy

Effects of ionizing radiation on tumor and on healthy tissue

External radiotherapy – planning, fractionation.

Diagnosis and treatment of GIT tumors – liver, bile duct, neuroendocrine tumors, pankreas.

Diagnosis and treatment of GIT tumors – esophagus, stomach, colorectal cancer, anus.

Diagnosis and treatment of head and neck tumors

Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors – vulva, vagina cervix.

Diagnosis and treatment of gynecological tumors – uterus, ovaries

Diagnosis and treatment of sarcomas and tumors of endocrine glands.

Practicals:

The purpose of practicals is the teaching with participation of the patients. The students are divided into groups of 5 students. The students obtain the patients history, they perform the examination and suggest the treatment. The patients are discussed during following seminar. The discussion starts with the particular patient and is directed to general isses of his diagnosis, treatment and treatment side effects.
