In the winter semester, lectures are focused on the classification of periodontal diseases, examination of the periodontium and periodontal instruments.

Prerequisites: obligatory subject of the 1st year, Preclinical Dentistry III, Prosthetic Technology.

Results:

  1. The student acquires theoretical knowledge about the classification of periodontal diseases, periodontal examination and periodontal treatment.
  2. The student acquires basic practical skills in periodontal examination and treatment on models in the phantom laboratory.

Credit

Credit will be awarded to a student who:

  1. has properly completed the practical training in a given semester (any absence must be properly compensated),
  2. has demonstrated sufficient knowledge during the continuous examination,
  3. passes the credit test with at least 75%. In the event of failure to achieve at least 75% in the test, an oral examination in the scope of this subject will follow.

Lectures

The lectures complement the required literature. The lectures highlight the minimum knowledge in the field that is a prerequisite for passing the exam.

  1. Periodontology and its significance in medicine. (Slezak 1)                                            
  2. Morphology and physiology of the periodontium. (Radochova 1)
  3. Diagnostics and classification of periodontal diseases. (Radochova 1)  
  4. Examination and evaluation of periodontal tissue. (Radochova 2)
  5. Periodontal machines. (Radochova 1)
  6. Periodontal instruments. (Radochova 3)

Practical courses & seminars

Practical classes take place in the phantom laboratory of the Department of Dentistry, Faculty of Medicine, Charles University in Hradec Králové. Students practice periodontal examination on a model, calculus removal and maintenance of instruments (sharpening/grinding).
