1. Monday: Medical genetics and genetic testing (beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

a) Introduction to medical genetics, genetic testing

b) Commercial genetic testing, DTC-tests, its ethical issues

2. Tuesday: Genetic counseling - From symptoms to syndromes (beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

a) Genetic counseling center, its basic activities and cooperation with other clinical departments, ethical and legal issues of genetic counseling

b) How to examine a patient and indicate cytogenetic or molecular genetic examination?

c) Interesting case studies in medical genetics

3. Wednesday: Diagnostic tools in medical cytogenetics (beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

a) Medical cytogenetic lab, its equipment

b) Modern molecular cytogenetic methods (FISH, MLPA, arrayCGH, NGS), their application in clinical genetics

4. Thursday: Oncogenetics (beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

a) The problem of cancer families and hereditary cancer, diagnostic criteria

b) Interesting case studies in oncogenetics

5. Friday: Eugenics in the past and today (beginning at 2:30 p.m.)

a) Gene-Ethics: ethical issues related to medical genetics

b) Eugenics - its history, present, and future; medical genetics in the post-genomic era

The specific program of the course envies the time possibilities of doctors from the genetic counseling center. Therefore, changes of the schedule are not excluded! However, the content of the course will remain the same in any case.
