This course is dedicated to 5th and 6th year medical students of the English curriculum. At the beginning students will refresh basic algorithms of ALS, causes of SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) and its management. Participants will master “hard skills”, necessary to perform high quality and successful ALS (securing the airways, correct performing of CPR, defibrillation, prepare and inject correct dose of resuscitative drugs). In the following session participants will experience simulation of any possible cause of SCA and its management. Part of the simulation is “debriefing” (after simulation “talk and analysis”), which is focused on medical analysis, hard skills and soft skills (team work, communication, leadership). Due to limited time during simulation great emphasis is put on “prelearning” (Essential materials will be provided to students prior each session. Good knowledge is crucial for understanding and attending of each topic). In case of repeated poor knowledge of ALS basics student or whole group will have to pass oral/written exam.
Course completion requirements
Last update: Jan Kovář (11.09.2022)

An active approach and high motivation are highly expected.

Good knowledge of ERC guidelines and pharmacotherapy in ALS will be required

It is strictly required to be 100% presence of each participant! There won´t be any special session for missed ones! Therefore, if you know you might be missing some session, do not block the place at course to the others.

In case of poor knowledge of ALS guidelines there will be required oral/written exam. The date of the exam will be specified accordingly.

Literature
Last update: Jan Kovář (11.09.2022)

Latest ERC resuscitation guidelines ( https://cprguidelines.eu/ )

Prelearning – summary of basic knowledge necessary for each session will be provided to students prior to each session

Requirements to the exam
Last update: Jan Kovář (11.09.2022)

There is no final exam. Credits will be given for full attendance only.

In case of very poor knowledge of ALS guidelines will be created date of oral/test exam for all participants.

• Interactive seminar about the basics of CPR and ALS

• Practical recognition of SCA (sudden cardiac arrest) and ruling out reversible causes of SCA during CPR

• Hard skills drilling (CPR, securing airways, monitoring, defibrillation……)

• Simulation and debriefing of SCA in adults

• Simulation and debriefing of SCA in children

• Simulation and debriefing of SCA in adults or children

• Simulation of peri-resuscitative conditions shortly prior to SCA

• Post resuscitative management and diagnostics

• Complex/ more challenging simulations with debriefing base on previous simulations

• Basics of CRM (crisis resource management - communication, team work, leadership)

• Evaluation
