Medical Psychology and Communication is a discipline that mediates basic theroretical and practical aspects of psychological, behavioural and social aspects of health and illness. To practice effective evidence-based medicine, doctors must knot how psychological and behavioural factors influence health and illness. Medical students are taught to implement a biopsychosocial perspective and to use psychological approaches in diagnostics and treatment. After the course medical students understand that in order to achieve best possible treatment results, working and trustfull doctor-patient relationship must be established and maintained. They are familiar with communication techniques in specific clinical situations. Also, medical students aquire basic knowledge and skills how to survive in good health extremely demanding medical profession. Presentations, articles and other materials are available in curricular database Vyuka. During theoretical topics results of scientific studies and case-reports will be presented. During practical training videomaterials will be presented and role-playing will be encouraged. Detailed information about Medical Psychology and Communication is in Vyuka, Informace o predmetu. Contents - Structure: Medical psychology and communication consists of 30 hours (15 units), organized as 15 clinical seminars with controlled presence. In order to fully participate in 5th year classes knowledge from the 4th yearis required.(Neurobiology of basic psychological mechanisms (memory, emotions and stress; 3 seminars) are part of Neurobehavioural Sciences I module (for details go to Vyuka, Neurobehavioural Sciences I; psychological, behavioural and social aspects of health and illness are covered in 7 lectures in summer semester for all students. Medical psychology and communication consists of 15  obligatory seminars with controlled presence .

Requirements for the credit: 80% participation = 12 teachers´ signatures on the presence sheet.

The oral exam will be in person. In order to participate in the oral exam, students must have the credit from Medical psychology and communication. 

Succesfull passing of the 5th year oral Medical Psychology and Communication Exam is a prerequisite for participation in the State Exam from Neurobehavioural Sciences, that has two parts: 1. Oral Medical Psychology exam and Oral commissional exam from psychiatry and neurology. The Medical Psychology an Communication Exam Questions are attached in "Podminky zakonceni predmetu file" The rules for Medical Psychology Exam are as follows.

• For oral exam from psychology and oral commissional exam from psychiatry and neurology student apply through the Student Information System (SIS).
• Oral exam from psychology takes place in the Department of psychology of 3rd Medical Faculty, Ruská 87, building B. The terms are published in Study Information System (SIS).
• At the examination, student will be allotted one question. List of questions is available in web module Vyuka, Medical psychology, "Informace o predmetu" unit.
• Successful passing of the oral exam from psychology is prerequisite for participation at the oral commisional exam from psychiatry and neurology. Successful passing is defined as the grade „excellent“, „very good“ or „good“. This result is part of the overall result of SFE.
• If the student subsequently does not pass oral commissional exam from psychiatry and neurology the result from oral exam from psychology remains valid and the exam does not have to be repeated.
