The main task during the 5th year is to get the systematic knowledge of internal medicine in practical courses. During a patient demonstration, the students are supposed not only to improve their skills in taking patient´s history and physical examination but also interpretation of clinical and laboratory findings and therapeutical assessment. The students are obliged to take part in patient´s admission and assist in some invasive procedures. The subject is completed by credit.

During clinical training, the demonstration of the patient will be focused on improving skills in taking patient´s history and physical examination, interpretation of clinical and laboratory findings and therapy assessment. Bedside teaching: 6x5 lessons in one of the internal medicine subspecialities(cardiology, nephrology, diabetology and endocrinology, haematology, gastroenterology, pneumology, oncology and occupational medicine). The internship sites: Departments of the University Hospital Královské Vinohrady and other Prague hospitals. Clinical training: daily after 1:30 pm(depends on the actual department). Duration: 90 minutes. Subspeciality bedside teaching: block 1: week 1-5, block 2: week 6-10, block 3: week11-15. Signing-up for the bedside teaching will be announced by the Study Department. Students can subscribe strictly for 1 clinical lesson a week, i.e. the training in one subspeciality will take 5 weeks. In each block, students may attend one suspeciality only! Just the ERASMUS students may complete 2 internal subspecialities a week, i.e. 2 clinical lessons in 2 subspecialities weekly. It is strongly recommended to cover as many subspecialities as possible. Attendance sheet: available at the secretariat of the Clinic of Internal Medicine (building N, 3rd floor) at the beginning of the semester. Other requirements for the bedside teaching: clean white coat, stethoscope, indoor shoes depending on the instructions of a given hospital department.

Students are strictly reminded not to attend bedside teaching if having respiratory or gastrointestinal infection. Alternative dates for missed lessons may be arranged with the concrete teacher. Students are obliged to perform hand hygiene and to follow instructions of the department, where the internships is taken

CREDIT

The subject Internal medicine I will be completed by obtaining the credit. The credit will be achieved after completion of internships of both semesters upon delivering the attendance sheet to the box of the Chair of Internal Medicine – Box No.53 at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine (make a copy beforehand). To obtain the credit, students must complete at least 24 internships (80% of lessons). Confirmation of attendance must be always registered in the Internal medicine 5th year sheet – teacher´s signature and stamp. Students who plan to complete part of the internal internships within the ERASMUS programme abroad must fill in the prescribed application form in advance (the form is available at the Study Department of the Dean's Office of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine) and submit it to the Secretariat of the Internal Clinic of the 3rd Faculty of Medicine, Charles University and FNKV, building N, 3rd floor (Mrs. B. Jajová). Applications will be approved by Prof. Kraml. Students leaving for the entire 5th year must complete at the foreign university all 30 teaching units.
