The course focuses on primary prevention in the field of nutrition in pregnant and lactating women, children and youth. It presents main risks related to inappropriate nutrition and eating habits in the key developmental periods and main strategies to improve nutrition applied in the primary health care and the field of health promotion.

The aim of the course is to present the knowledge on main health risks related to inappropriate nutrition in key developmental periods (from pregnancy to adolescence), current nutritional guidelines and their implementation.

Presentation of current knowledge, surveys and case studies.

Independent elaboration and presentation of a particular topic by the student in front of the group.

Practicals - training counselling interviews, using self-evaluating questionnaires and scales elaborated by the WHO, brief evaluation of nutrition(24 hour recall), evaluation of case studies,formulation of a problem behaviour in relation to nutrition and goals of the behavioural change.

Active participation in the course and elaboration and presentation of a particular topic is required for the credit, while 1 absence is tolerated.

1. Current nutritional guidelines, nutritional counselling, brief nutritional evaluation.

2. Nutrition in pregnant women and risks for the development and health of the child, case studies, work in groups.

3. Nutrition in lactating women and health of the child, case study, training counselling interview.

4. Risks related to infant feeding (contamination of infant formula, HIV and infant feeding).

5. Health risks related to mutrition in preschool and school children, health promotion programmes related to nutrition applied in kindergarten and schools.

6. Obesity in children and youth - prevalence, etiology, prevention and treatment(cognitive behavioural approaches).

7. Eating disorders in children and youth - prevalence, etiology, prevention and treatment(cognitive behavioural approaches).
