Dear Colleagues, Current Information on this course - ITIBO Health Center, Kenya, CVOLO 195, for the academic year 2022/2023 : This course will not be offered. The next date for this course will be in the next academic year. They already have internships at the Itibo Clinic in southwestern Kenya at the 3rd Faculty of Medicine several years of tradition with an excellent response. Itibo Health Center is located in equatorial Africa, students here during a monht-long internship they work under supervision experienced doctors and local medical staff. The seminar aims to introduce students not only to work in the field humanitarian aid and development cooperation in general, but mainly approach the specifics of work in thich facility. During 5 seminars students get acquainted with the issue medcial-preventive care in these conditions and get the necessary information if they are considering a mission in Itibo. To teaching guests, students or doctors who took part in the mission will be invited attending the seminar is an advantage for students who plan to participate in the selection procedure. Participation in this seminars, is highly recomended for those, who would like to go to Kenya, but its not compulsory.

Tento seminář má za cíl přiblížit studentům nejen práci v oblasti humanitární pomoci a rozvojové spolupráce obecně, ale hlavně přiblížit specifika práce ve zdravotnickém zařízení ITIBO.V průběhu 5-ti seminářů se studenti seznámí s problematikou léčebně-preventivní péče v těchto podmínkách a získají potřebné informace v případě, že uvažují-li o výjezdu na misi.

This seminar aims to introduce students not only to work in the field of humanitarian aid and development cooperation in general, but mainly to introduce the specifics of work in the ITIBO medical facility. in case they are considering going on a mission.

1st seminar:
Introduction to humanitarian aid and development cooperation. Ethics of humanitarian aid. Introduction of East Africa, Kenya. Geographical, cultural, economic and demographic differences of this country. Itibo project, history, operation of the project. Problematics mission security, vaccinations, visas, practical recommendations. Cultural shock, stress on missions. Introductiion to the basics of the local language - Kisi tribe.

2nd seminar:
Patient in Kenya. Diagnostic - therapeutic process in clinic, psychological and communication aspects and specifics of work in different culture. Possibilities of laboratory tests, auxiliary examination methods, referring patients to higher workplaces and possibilities of these workplaces, specifics of work in the ICU (theatre, gynaecological and obstetric department, pediatrics, in the outpatient clinic, dental ambulance)

3rd seminar (case study):
Problems of tropical diseases in ITIBO - presentation of the most common diseases, diagnosis and treatment. Teaching supplemented by specific case studies with photo documentation, students deisgn their own diagnostic and treatment procedure. Linking theory and practice.

4th seminar (case study):
Practical seminar focused on frequent diseases ang health problems that student may experience in Itibo meet. Case studies in the field of gynaecology - obstetrics, surgery, internal medicine, pedatircs, ENT, neurology, etc.

5th seminar:
Medicine Remote Areas. Specifics of the war medicine, disaster medicine - news from congresses, the seminar will be always present a guest  (e.g. physicians, students who have completed the internship or someone with practical experience with development cooperation and humanitarian aid, or acting in Itibo).
