Basic theoretical concepts of Gestalt therapy and their applications in the practice of a physician will be presented.

The aim of the course is to present basic theoretical concepts and practical approaches of Gestalt counselling and therapy.

Presentation of theoretical concepts and case studies.

Practicals - training of basic counselling and therapeutical skills:

  • interviewing the client, empathetic listening and observation
  • awareness of the therapist´s reaction to the client
  • formulation of the client´s needs and goals of the therapy
  • identifying contact styles in the dialogue with the client
  • diagnostics from the perspective of Gestalt therapy.

Active participation in the course is required for the credit, min. 80%.

Syllabus -

 1. Theoretical resources, concepts, concept of health in GT, formulating goals of the therapy (therapeutical contract).    

2. Phenomenological exploration of examination anxiety, holistic observation.

3. Role of the therapist in GT, therapeutical relationship, dialogue, supervision.

4. Exploration of a client´s context and background, creative adjustment and the family, creative techniques applied in working with the history.

5. Theory of personality (Self) and therapeutical approach to clients suffering with shame.

6.  Awareness and working with emotions 

7. Contact, contact cycle, contact boundaries, contact mechanisms.

8. Diagnosing in medicine and GT, therapeutic strategies.

9. Gestalt approach in crisis intervention, working with trauma.

10. Gestalt approach to the treatment of depression.
Diagnostics and interventions in from GT and psychiatric perspective.

11. Psychosomatic approach in patients with symptoms with unclear etiology.

12. Working with oncological patients, dying patients.

13. Using experiments, creative imagination and humour in GT.

14. Prevention of burnout syndrome in helping professions, transpersonal and spiritual dimension in GT, mindfulness training.

15. Gestalt process, development of therapy, closing therapy, effectiveness of pychotherapy proved by research, evaluation of the course, credit.
