People with ADHD often have altered brain wave patterns, which appear in the EEG mainly as lower levels of low-beta waves (13-15 Hz) that correlate with concentration and introspection, lower levels of high-beta waves (16 -30 Hz) that correlate with intense concentration and mental effort, and higher levels of high-theta waves (6-8 Hz) that correlate with dreaming and relaxation. "Binaural Beats" are created by applying two slightly different tones to the left and right ear, and the brain then perceives a third tone that is the difference between the two original tones. This virtual beta frequency can realign brain waves into the beta range and thus improve concentration, attention and alertness, which can be tested using behavioural tests, even on a healthy population.
