The subject Cell and Molecular Biology as a part of a bachelor degree study program Public Health is taught in the 1st year of the study. The study gives basic knowledge on cell and molecular biology.
Aim of the course -
Last update: RNDr. Kamila Balušíková, Ph.D. (29.09.2017)

The aim of the subject is to provide students with basis of cell and molecular biology. The topics discussed in this subject are focused on structure and function of procaryotic and eucaryotic cells, DNA and RNA, processes such as replication, transcription, translation, regulation of these processes, furthermore on the topics cell cycle, apoptosis, cell transformation etc.

Conditions for the course "Cell and Molecular Biology"

(Bachelor's degree program "Public Health")

Conditions for obtaining the credit:
Presence at least during 4 of the 5 lectures (80% attendance). Three other topics are subject to self-study, therefore these are not counted into total 80%. In the case of non-fulfillment of the attendance credit conditions, the student can obtain a credit on the basis of a credit test. Date of the test is discussed with teacher individually. The test contains 8 short answer questions, which can be divided into several sub-questions. To pass the test successfully, 75% of the questions need to be answered correctly.
If the student could not attend the class, for example due to a disease, a medical report can be accepted instead of the student’s attendance.

Conditions for obtaining the exam:
Student gains the exam after passing a written test.
Successful passing of the test:
- a total of 40 questions with four answers, no up to four answers can be correct (correct answer is marked with a cross)
- 1 point is received for every correctly answered question
- maximum points: 40
- minimum number of points to fulfill the test: 20

Student's attendance during the test needs to be confirmed via SIS. Without an identity card (index, ID, etc.), the student will not be admitted to the test. The written test dates are final and the others will not be listed. An exception may be granted to students who can prove that they can not be present for relevant reasons (eg long-term illness). It should be noted that the capacity of each term is given by the capacity of reserved classrooms.
