The aim of the course is to bring a overview of basic psychiatric disorders and their treatment with a view to practical skills in care of patients with mental disorders.

After the course, participants will be familiar with the pictures of basic psychiatric disorders and their treatment (pharmacotherapy, other biological methods, psychotherapy, psychiatric rehabilitation and methods of community psychiatry as well). Futher, participants will be able to communicate with mentally ill patients.

Symptoms, syndroms and disorders in psychiatry. Diagnostic methods in psychiatry. Therapeutic techniques in psychiatry.

Schizophrenia and other psychotic disorders. Specifics in the care of patients with psychosis.

Mood disorders (depression and bipolar disorder). Specifics in the care of patients with depression, risk of suicide.

Anxiety disorders, personality disorders, eating disorders. Specifics in the care of patients with anxiety.

Introduction to psychotherapy a psychiatric rehabilitation, physician ? patient relationship.

Community psychiatry ? care outside of hospitalization, daily clinics, training jobs and living
