The courses: 1) The general needs of the patient, 2) The communication with the patient, 3) The basic knowledge and skills in nursing, 4) First aid, 5) The basic philosophy and psychology During this second semester of the second year proceeds the course "The communication with the patient". The communication with the patient: The subject aims to provide knowldge and skills in communication with a healthy as well as ill child and adult. 30 teaching hours in 3 hour blocks.

Course objectives

The aim of the course is the personal and social development of students. Personal growth is facilitated by training in self-assessment techniques in context of behavior, activities and skills needed in various situations (interpersonal communication, cooperation, conflicts, stressful situations). Other part of the course is focused on the development of self-regulation. From the pesrspective of social development it encompasses training of communication skills, particularly interpersonal communication, cooperation, assessing other people?s needs and feelings, management of problemms within a group, and in multicultural environment. From the perspective of moral development the course aims to teach understanding and tolerance to different attitudes and values of people with different cultural backround.

1. Characteristics of communication process. Verbal and nonverbal communication..

2. Patient typology. Communication with a ?problematic? patient.

3. Communication with children. Visit to a children?s home in Říčanska str. 1., Home ?Laguna? in Psáry

4. Communication in paliative care. Visit to Hospice Štrasburk in Praha 8 Bohnice.

5. Communication within health-care team. Visit to an acute care unit.
