Psychiatric propedeutics is designed to 1) teach basic interviewing skills in mentally ill; and 2) provide oral and written report on the clinical examination of psychiatric patient including present mental status examination.

Credit: Students obtain the information about the credit at the first day of the course, also, the information is located at http://www.pcp.lf3.cuni.cz/vyuka/. For credit 80% presence is required, that is 11 hours out of 14. If in case of some unexpected situation (e.g. illness) students are absent, substitution for missing hours is possible after contacting the teacher responsible for the course via e-mail motlova@pcp.lf3.cuni.cz, copy to the secretary jarosova@pcp.lf3.cuni.cz, as soon as possible. It is possible to replace the absence 1) with the other groups including Czech curriculum; 2) if this is not possible students contact the teacher responsible for the course via e-mail motlova@pcp.lf3.cuni.cz; After contacting responsible teacher students 1) participate at the first topic of Mental Disorders course, as the topic deals with psychopathology overview, or 2) write Psychiatric Examination Report after clinical exam of psychiatric patient.

Syllabus -

Theoretical part (total 7 hours) is organized into two parts: 1) communication skills in specific situations (restless patient, delirious patient, demented patient, intoxicated patient, acutely psychotic patient, anxious patient); and 2) psychiatric report: identifying data, first ?impression?, family history, previous and current medical illnesses, alcohol and other substance use history, personal history, previous psychiatric illnesses, history of present illness, mental status examination, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, further diagnostic studies, treatment plan. For practical part (total 7 hours) students are expected to talk with psychiatric patient by themselves, to ask relevant questions in order to examine the mental status. Also, they are expected to study medical records and write Mental Status Examination by thein own based on the interview.
