It is provided in clinical department ( in detail https://www.lf3.cuni.cz/3LFEN-72.html ) throughout the whole academic year and during the summer vacation and follows the theoretical and practical lessons of the ICM II. The goal of ICM practice for students

1)    to know how to admitt the patient to the hospital - acute and routine admission,

2)    to understand the importance of multidisciplinary care in healthcare facilities and communication within multidisciplinary teams,

3)    to practice professional communication with the patient and his relatives,

4)    to know indications for examination, care of patient before examination, during and after examination, including pre-operative and post-operative procedures (radiodiagnostic, endoscopic examination, ultrasound, etc.), as well as communication of results to patients,

5)     to gain skills in performing clinical procedures (measurement and assessment of physiological functions, prevention of nosocomial infections, assessment, monitoring and treatment of pain, application of i.m. injections, preparation and application of i.v. injections,  permanent urinary catheter insertion, capillary and venous blood sampling, peripheral vein cannulation, principles of multidisciplinary care -  take care of nutrition, decubitus and chronic wounds, falls, surgical wound dressings, etc.),

6)     to learn the issue of patient education in connection with the diagnostic and therapeutic plan of care and event. other measures in connection with the disease (e.g. diabetes mellitus),

7)     to know how to plan the patient's  transfer to another unit, or discharge, including appropriate communication with the patient and relatives.

120 hours of professional practice (40 hours to obtain information about the selected facility and to summary it to the report for credit and 80 hours of direct practice in the selected facility

 

Students secure individual practice at their place of residence, relevant documents for practice (insurance for practice abroad) has to be collect at the Study Department. Information about institution of individual practice is entered by the student to the system at http://praxe-ukm.lf3.cuni.cz. The selection of institution for ICM practice can be consulted with the teachers of the Institute of Nursing - Mgr. Kateřina Kravcová (katerina.kravcova@lf3.cuni.cz), Mgr. Tereza Bakusová (tereza.bakusova@lf3.cuni.cz)

Intensive care units, critical care departments, ENT, dermatology department, eye department, gynecological-obstetric department, psychiatric wards and laboratories IS NOT alowed.

ICM II internship carried out in the Czech Republic - 3rd Faculty of Medicine of Charles University provides internships for students, e.g. at the surgical and general unit. 

Registration for ICM II practice has to be completed by 13.9. 2024
