V tomto doktorandském semináři probíhají prezentace vznikajících doktorských prací formou referátů a následných diskusí. Dále jsou probírána stěžejní teoretická a metodologická témata na základě četby lingvistických studií (viz seznam literatury resp. průběžně ukládané aktuální soubory).

Cílem je ujasnit si základní teoretická a metodologická východiska, procvičovat se v argumentaci (příprava na obhajobu) a pronikat do souvislostí v rámci lingvistických témat, která přímo či volněji souvisejí s tématy disertačních prací. Průběžné studium textů a příprava na semináře je tak významnou pomocí při přípravě na státní doktorskou zkoušku.

Návrhy  obecných  témat, která by mohla obohatit všechny účastníky, vztahují se k tématům prací volněji. Jsou to většinou texty menšího rozsahu, nikoliv celé knižní publikace. Bibliografie není formálně sjednocená, jde pouze o informativní materiál pro potřeby doktorandského semináře. Seznam lze z iniciativy účastníků semináře kdykoliv modifikovat.
