The Italian course for beginners aims at providing the students with basic knowledge of the Italian language (A1 level). The languages of instruction are primarily English and Italian.
The course consists of individual lessons (based on the textbook Nuovo Espresso 1) and of e-learning sessions in which the students will practice reading, listening, speaking and writing.
One-semester course, 1 session of 90 minutes per week in the classroom and 90 minutes per week assignments in Moodle etc.
The course is targeted preferably on doctoral students but other students can participate in case of free capacity, too.
In case of distant learning the originally planned face-to-face lessons will be realized via one of the platforms MS Teams, Adobe Connect, Zoom (this will be specified according to the current government or faculty/university restrictions.)

Overview of lexical units:
- Italian greetings; learn to introduce yourself and others; learn to ask and answer questions about personal details; learn to ask and say how old you and others are; learn say thank you in italian; learn the calendar; learn to describe an apartment; learn how to book a room in a Hotel; learn to ask for information and react; learn to describe your holiday; learn to talk about your free time activities; learn to talk about your family; learn to describe a picture.

Overview of grammatical units:

- subject pronouns; present tense; alphabet; definite and indefinite articles; interrogative words (quando, come, dove etc.); cardinal numbers; regular verbs in –are – ere and –ire ; basic italian verbs (essere, avere, fare, stare, andare, potere etc) ; substantives; negation; prepositions; frequency adverbs; past tense (passato prossimo); past participle; possessive adjectives and pronouns.
