Anglophone Literature about the Czechs
The seminar is primarily designed for Erasmus students, who will examine how Anglophone authors perceive Bohemia (Prague) and its inhabitants on selected texts (both prose and poetry) of the 20th century. Several questions about English texts with Czech themes will be asked, such as:
How does the perception of the given topic of non-Czech authors differ from the Czech viewpoint, what are the causes of these differences, what stereotypes appear in the texts and with what purpose are they used, in what context is the text with Czech themes percieved by an English-speaking reader (versus a Czech reader), etc.
Aim of the course -
Last update: Bc. Markéta Karlasová (21.09.2023)

The aim of the course is to strengthen students' critical thinking and intercultural competences, to systematically reflect on the content of concepts such as ideological stereotype, national identity, Czechness, cultural heritage and to analyze the representation of these concepts in English-written literature with Czech themes.
