Old Norse III builds upon the previous course, Old Norse II, and is intended for students who already possess basic knowledge of the language. It provides an overview of the Old Norse, specifically Old Icelandic, grammatical system, primarily from a synchronic perspective. The course aims to prepare the graduate for independent reading of Old Norse literary texts.
The course consists of two main components: practical language exercises focused on acquiring further aspects of Old Icelandic grammar, and reading original Old Norse texts (Eddic poems: Þrymskviða, Vǫluspá, or according to the participants' interests).
