This course is designed for everyone who wants to practice in statistical analysis. The course will analyze several datasets, with an emphasis on the correct interpretation of the results. This course assumes knowledge equivalent to a basic course in statistics. It is advisable to enroll in this course in the academic year when there is no mandatory statistics course in the curriculum. The course assumes knowledge of the statistical software Jamovi. The course will be taught in English.

The teaching will be in-person. In each session, a dataset will be introduced along with research questions, and then students will independently try to test and interpret the given hypotheses.

Randomly selected datasets that will be used include:

  • Prediction of grades of Portuguese students
  • Sentiment analysis of Spotify
  • NHANES dataset (data on the health status of the US population)
  • LOVOO dating site data analysis

The course assumes basic knowledge of statistics (linear regression, t-tests, analysis of variance, correlation, contingency tables) and familiarity with the Jamovi software. This course is not suitable for students who have not yet studied statistics, as it focuses on practicing methods, not teaching them from scratch.
