Last update: Mgr. Veronika Hubinová (03.10.2023)
It is a practically oriented one-semester optional course (hour allowance: 26 hours/semester), in which students are introduced to the basic knowledge of individual methods, and they are provided with sufficient space for real practice of these methods in model teaching situations. The presentation of individual methods within the course is also implemented in an activation way, so that students have the opportunity to feel the advantages and disadvantages of using activation methods themselves in their own teaching from the position of pupils; at the same time, practical training on the chosen topics will enable them to assume the role of future teachers who will use activation methods in everyday practice. It also includes an evaluation of the functionality, implementation and fulfillment of the objectives of the given activity. <br>
The course thus becomes a suitable supplement to the didactics courses of various taught subjects, in which there is not enough space for a detailed analysis and practice of individual activation methods. The content of the course is designed relatively broadly with the aim of providing students with a basic overview of activation methods in the broadest and narrowest sense of the word and with the ambition to enable students to practice and test methods according to their current needs and choice.
Aim of the course -
Last update: Mgr. Věra Hejhalová, Ph.D. (21.09.2023)

The subject offers the participants - student teachers, the opportunity to get acquainted very practically with a number of activation teaching methods for the needs of use in the teaching of the studied fields, especially foreign languages. The aim is thus to provide an overview and basic explanation of the use of activation methods in teaching, their purpose, points out the possible risks of their use in various stages from preparation, through implementation to evaluation.
The subject also aims to understand the importance of the choice of teaching methods in relation to the teaching objectives set in the RVP, especially to achieve the set competences of pupils (competencies for learning, problem solving, communicative, social and personal, civic, work competences), while above all for the construction and activation methods appear to be one of the most suitable for achieving these competencies. Activation methods, if they are understood broadly enough, integrate diverse requirements for the development of critical thinking in pupils, support for autonomous learning, focus on activity-oriented teaching, problem-based and project-based teaching and the development of communicative skills.
The subject complements other didactically oriented subjects offered to teaching students of various disciplines (mainly didactics of individual disciplines), but above all it offers the possibility of very practical testing of various activation methods for the needs of language teaching. With its practical focus, it has a direct impact on the implementation of pedagogical practices of various kinds, from listening and ongoing practices, during which the student observes an experienced teacher and observes what teaching methods incl. activation methods he uses and with what result, up to the possibility of using these methods in the course of assistantship or continuous practice of his own. For that reason, emphasis is also placed on the evaluation of various methods and the development of the ability to choose from a range of methods the most effective ones for the given educational content.

A student completing this course will have the following knowledge, skills and will be eligible for the following activities:
· the student knows the interpretation of the term activation method for the needs of teaching and can characterize it
· the student knows different types of activation methods, can characterize them and choose from them those that are adequate and usable in a given teaching situation
· a student as a future teacher can use various activation methods to develop the internal motivation of his pupils and also in different phases of the teaching process (for diagnosing the state and progress of knowledge and skills, for reviving and diversifying the presentation and for repetition)
· the student is able to link the method with the material in both directions, i.e. evaluate the suitability (and then plan, develop and implement) the chosen activation method for the specified material (I know what I will teach and can choose a suitable method for it); respectively can design and evaluate which educational contents are suitable for presentation and implementation using which activation methods (I know which methods exist and can imagine their usability for specific contents under each of them)
· possesses the ability to evaluate and critically evaluate the implemented teaching with the aim of evaluating the degree of achievement of the goal and the appropriateness of the method used in the given teaching situation
