Religion has not disappeared in the modern world. Although it undergoes a number of changes, it has a
permanent and, in recent decades, even a growing influence on social, cultural, political organization and
changes. This also applies in strongly de-churched Western European societies, as well as in the case of various
forms of state-church symbiosis in Eastern and Central European countries. The course maps the most important
manifestations of contemporary religiosity, ecclesiastical and otherwise structured, in European countries,
considering the situation in other parts of the world. At the same time, students are introduced to different ways of
understanding these phenomena, some of which they choose for independent analysis of a specific religious
organization, institution, or process.
