Aim of the course -

The aim of the course is to introduce the acquisition of theoretical knowledge in the field of the basics of biochemistry.

Key knowledge and skills:

1/ composition of living matter

2/ main nutrients - sugars, fats, proteins - their distribution and characteristics

3/ metabolic transformations of the main nutrients (glycolysis, beta-oxidation, Krebs cycle, cellular respiration...)

4/ proteosynthesis (principle, meaning, sequence, inclusion within the cell)

5/ nucleic acids (structure, function, meaning)

6/ polarization/depolarization of the plasma membrane, transmission of excitement, events on the neuromuscular plate and muscle contraction

7/ biologically active substances (vitamins, antioxidants, signaling molecules)

8/ zones of energy coverage

9/ possibilities of biochemical diagnosis and its use in selected diseases
