The aim of the course is to obtain a basic overview of the field of piano and string pedagogy, to get acquainted with the history and developmental stages of the field and to understand the rules and relations of this development. The basic ideas of contemporary instrumental teaching are demonstrated on the principles of the development of European piano pedagogy and key works in the field from the oldest schools to the present. Emphasis is placed on a thorough analysis of the most important principles of instrumental teaching with a focus on individual issues such as tone formation, pupils' musical development, hearing and music playing issues, development of instrumental technique, creativity issues, artistic level of individual schools, physiological and psychological aspects, etc. The starting point is the students' own artistic or pedagogical experience.

The student will describe the main historical stages in the development of piano and string pedagogy. The student will compare key methodological works and major schools of pedagogy throughout history and their influence on contemporary teaching methods. The student will analyze and discuss the major principles of instrumental teaching, including playing technique, tone production, and creative performance. The student will compare and evaluate various approaches to the development of musicianship, technique, and creativity in the context of historical and modern methodologies. The student will apply the principles of piano and string pedagogy to practical examples of teaching. The student analyzes the physiological and psychological aspects of teaching and their effect on students. The student integrates knowledge of the history, theory, and practice of instrumental teaching and applies it to specific pedagogical scenarios. The student will develop and refine communication and pedagogical skills necessary for effective teaching and interaction with students. The student effectively uses feedback and assessment methods to support student development.
