Annotation -
Students should demonstrate their mastery of English on the level B2 as well as their ability to discuss academic themes with the teacher. Assesment:30 pages of a chosen scholar text sent via email to the teacher in advance (approval needed). The text is meant as a base for the exam: discussion, comments, paraphrasing and summary (both, oral and written). It is required to prove their knowledge of academic writing. To prepare, the student has the option of enrolling in Academic English I. and II., i.e. KJAZ156 and KJAZ157 or KJAZ054 and KJAZ055 or KJAZ256 and KJAZ257.

Aim of the course -

The aim of the subject is to test the ability of students to use English for academic purposes and, the principles of academic writing.

Course completion requirements -

Students will prepare a text of 30 pages concerning their field of study. Based on their text, they will demonstrate their knowledge of English grammar and vocabulary in the discussion with the teacher. Finally, they will write a summary of the chosen extract. The text must be sent to the teacher in advance (to be approved).

Students with B2, C1, or C2 certificates (or those with a C1–C2 language proficiency level without a formal certificate) may use a shorter text for the exam (minimum 15 pages), preferably an article from an academic journal. They should be able to describe the topic, research question, methodology, and conclusions reached by the author.
