Annotation -
The aim of the course is to provide students with a basic overview of the main ethical theories of today and theirs problems. The course is not only intended to provide information on the most widespread approaches in ethics and their philosophical
contexts, but at the same time dispose listeners to independent critical thinking about individual ethical directions and their consequences in various areas of applied ethics.

The content of the course emphasizes the methodological prerequisites for a discussion of ethical issues, and therefore begins with basic ethical concepts, assumptions and approaches, introduces the questions posed in current discussions ("The
Trolley Problem" etc.) and differentiates the approaches of rationalism, empiricism, analytical ethics, etc. Attention is paid to the three main trends in contemporary ethics - deontology, utilitarianism and virtue ethics, which are also presented in the historical context and different versions (various forms of consequentialism, etc.) that resulted from criticism of their one-sidedness. Further, the listener is introduced to the approach of postmodernism and its consequences, also to situational ethics, to ethics of care and to, ethics of responsibility.
