The series of lectures in the winter and summer semesters will focus on the origins and development of women's monasteries in the medieval period. These monasteries were often founded by prominent women who, in addition to their founding activities, also regularly engaged in ordering activities. During each class, important women who made their mark on the history of visual culture in the Middle Ages through their fundraising and patronage activities will be discussed in turn. Special space will be devoted to their monastic foundations and their specificities. Space will also be devoted to the works themselves and their stylistic and cultural-historical classification, with a special focus on the Central European region. Women who, thanks to their holy lives, were canonized and whose veneration continued in their final resting places in the monasteries they founded will not be neglected.
