Annotation
This one semester course is designed for students of the Faculty of Social Sciences who would like to practice a foreign language with their peers. Students of two different languages work with a partner and help each other achieve a specific language goal. Students teaching the target language must be native speakers of that language. Students should set their own goals for language achievement and can also learn about each other's cultures. The main language for communication in English (a B1+ level is recommended). Unfortunately, we can not guarantee that each student will be matched with a suitable partner. For more information please contact us at tandem.cjp@fsv.cuni.cz

Registration in SIS done later by the supervisor and only for the students who were matched with a suitable partner.
Usually, a final notification about matching/not matching a registered student with a partner is sent at the end of September.

Course completion requirements

1. Introductory session  Thursday 10 October 6.30 pm (onsite/face to face) COMPULSORY

 

 

2. Regular weekly meetings with a partner

Completion of 10 tandem sessions (45+45 min.) by the end of the term. COMPULSORY

Independent work documented by weekly submissions of students´ work and progress in Moodle. 

·         Tandem teacher: weekly submission of prepared materials for teaching (lesson plan) and  a brief entry into the tandem minutes/diary

·         Tandem learner: weekly submission of "homework"/i.e. self-study practice activities (e.g. short writing, mind map with vocabulary, a short recording)

3. Mid term assessment of progress   Thursday  14 November 6.30 pm   COMPULSORY

face to face meeting with course supervisor; 

presentation of tandem activity

 

4.Final meeting     Thursday 12 December (face to face) - details to be provided later

Teaching methods

The tandem should meet face to face or online on a regular basis each week for 90 min. The tandem should provide weekly reports on their achievement. There will be three face to face meetings during the term (1. Introduction to the course, 2. Mid-term assessment of progress, 3. Final meeting).

Syllabus

The syllabus should be specified by each tandem according to their needs. Some suggestions for activities will be provided during the first introductory meeting. The syllabus should be consulted with the course supervisor. Students need to organize 10 tandem sessions, i.e. 45+45 min. of mutual tandem exchange.

Entry requirements

Only students who are enrolled at the Faculty of Social Sciences can register for this subject. For learners, no specific level of language competence is required. Students teaching the target language must be native speakers of that language. If  you would like to sign up please fill in the registration form  and specify

1/the language and the approximate level (A1 -B2)  you would like to learn

2/the language you are able to teach (you should be a native speaker of that language or bilingual).
