Annotation -

Fundamentals of radiology and imaging methods regarding stomatology. The course covers the whole spectrum of imaging modalities dedicated to stomatology, main indications, contraindications and limitations. The course includes basic principles of radiation protection.

Aim of the course -

The primary goal of the course is to teach students to rationally use imaging methods in dentistry and to acquaint them with basic pathological findings and to acquaint students with the basics of radiation protection.

The secondary goal is to teach students anatomy in the image of imaging methods with a focus on dental issues.

The tertiary goal is to acquaint students with the basic pathologies in dentistry and their correlate on imaging methods.

Course completion requirements -

For credits minimum 80% of attendance is needed.

For the exam the test is used with minimum of 70% required.

Syllabus -

Basic principles of X-rays and X-ray machine design.

Basic principles of radiation protection, legislation, ALARA principle.

Basics of CT, MR and ultrasound - technology, indications in dentistry, contraindications.

Dental anatomy in image imaging methods. Basic pathological findings in dentistry - traumatological and inflammatory.

Basic pathological findings in dentistry - tumors and birth defects.

Practical examples of imaging methods used.

Specifics of radiation protection in dentistry.
