English

The course consists of two modules:

1. A semester-long course focused on the basic theoretical and methodological issues. The first part features instructors' presentations concerning the practicalities of being a PhD student ("transferable skills") such as categories of academic publications and their registration in monitoring systems, sources of grant funding and the basics of grant applications, the specifics of presenting research at conferences, the development of an academic portfolio and career building, etc. The second part consists in an academic section, typically Rhetoric in Philosophy and Literature, or an alternative thematic bloc.

2. Presentation of sections of the students' dissertations and/or other research outcomes followed by a discussion focused on methodological issues. These take place in the summer semester under the guidance of the Graduate Studies Board Chair or an appointed Board member, in the presence of dissertation supervisors.

Students are required to participate in both modules, as well as present their work in progress in the form of seminar presentation.

Seminář se skládá ze dvou modulů:

1. Semestrální kurs o základních teoreticko-metodologických otázkách oboru. První část tvoří prezentace vyučujících o praktických otázkách doktorského studia (tzv. „transferable skills“) jako např. typech a vykazování publikací, zdrojích grantů a postupech při žádání o ně, problematiku prezentace výzkumu na konferencích, tvorbu akademického portfolia s výhledem na budoucí uplatnění doktoranda na trhu práce, atp. Druhou část tvoří odborný tématický blok, typicky se realizuje téma Rhetoric in Philosophy and Literature, mohou být nicméně realizovány i jiná témata.

2. Prezentace částí disertačních prací a dalších výsledků výzkumných aktivit doktorandů spolu s diskusemi o metodologických problémech. Konají se v letním semestru pod vedením předsedy OR nebo jím určeného člena OR a za spoluúčasti školitelů.

Studenti jsou povinni absolvovat oba moduly a v rámci druhého představit stav svého výzkumu formou prezentace.

Course completion requirements

Student je povinen se Doktorandského semináře účastnit během 1.-3. ročníku studia. V případě výjezdu na stáž je student omluven z účasti, není však zbaven povinnosti vlastní prezentace.
