Colloquial Sibe is the only Manchu variety currently in use. During this language course you will acquire the basics of grammar, knowledge of common vocabulary, the ability of a conversation in Sibe, as well as of written expression by means of a romanized transcription system. Tne course is jointly taught by Prof. Chengzhi / Kicengge (Otemon Gakuin University), a Qing historian and Sibe native speaker. During the course, you will learn about the ethnolinguistic and sociolinguistic contexts of the use of spoken Sibe and basic information about the history and culture of Sibe speakers. The course will be supplemented by audiovisual material. THe materials used during this course are the base of a planned textbook of spoken Sibe. The course will take place online. Please note that the time of the class will be discussed. If you have not registered, please contact Veronika Zikmundová (veronika.zikmundova@ff.cuni.cz) Hovorové šivejština je jediná v současnosti používaná varieta mandžuštiny a patří k ohroženým jazykům. Předmět je jazykovým kurzem, v němž získáte základy gramatiky, znalost běžné slovní zásoby, schopnost konverzace v šivejštině a písemného vyjadřování v transkripci hovorového jazyka. Na výuce se podílí prof. Chengzhi/ Kicengge (Otemon Gakuin University), historik mandžuské dynastie a rodilý mluvčí jazyka. V hodinách budeme rovněž probírat etnoligvistický a soviolingvistický kontext používání jazyka a důležité informace o historii a kultuře mluvčích šivejštiny. Kurz je doplněn audiovizuálním materiálem.Znalost literární mandžuštiny není nutná, ale je výhodou. Materiály, používané v rámci kurzu, jsou základem připravované učebnice hovorové šivejštiny. Weeks 4.-7: Grammar: Accusative, Instrumental and Ablative. Possessive constructions. Plain Imperative. The non-past tense. The imperfective converb. Construction: “to like/to dislike”. Texts and topics for conversation: My study, Food and restaurant. A trip to the mountains. Weeks 8-11. Grammar: Past tense. Perfective and conditional converb. Perfective and imperfective participles. Inchoative. Causative. Constructions: “to want/not want”, “to be able/unable”, “to need/not need” Texts and topics for conversation: Shopping, cooking Sibe food, the history of Sibe resettlement
Weeks 12.-15. Grammar: Progressive, the “not yet” verb form, the immediate future verb form. Voluntative. Verb chaining I, modal verbs: “to give”, “to see”, “to finish”-. Texts and topics for conversation: Sibe history. Shamanic traditions. Sibe festivals and the Asian zodiac. Illness and treatment.
Weeks 16.-19. Grammar: Optative. Evidential forms. Verbal nouns. Verb chaining II. Modal verbs: “to stand”, “to lie”, “to take”. Texts and topics for conversation: A Sibe folktale. Traditional Sibe occupations: Hunting and fishing. Academic writing. Description of people’s appearance and character.
Weeks 20.-23. Grammar: Complex sentences I (relative and embedded clauses) Texts and topics for conversation: Orientation in space. Traditional Sibe medicine. Food II: Sibe food recipes.Marriage. Funeral.
Week 23.-26. týden: Grammar: Compex sentences II: Direct, quoted and referred speech. Texts and topics for conversation: Issues of the Sibe language preservation. Sibe music and folklore genres. Academic writing and literary style. 1.-3. týden: Fonetika, genitiv, dativ-lokativ, číslovky, základní větná struktura. Konverzační témata: Můj byt, sebepředstavení, moje rodina. 4.-7. týden: Akuzativ, instrumentál, ablativ, přivlastnění. Neminulý a minulý slovesný čas, converbum imperfecti. Konstrukce: mít/nemít rád, chtít/nechtít, moci, Konverzační témata: Škola, studium šivejštiny, restaurace, výlet. 8-11. týden: Progresiv, participia, perfetkní a kondicionální konverbum. Inchoativ, kauzativa, blízká budoucnost. Konstrukce: Muset, nesmět, nemuset. Konverzační témata: Nákup, vaření, šivejská historie, počasí, šamanské tradice. 12.-15. týden: Zbývající slovesné tvary: "ještě ne-", řetězení sloves, modální s pomocná slovesa.
