English

The seminar will focus on the reading and analysis of key texts on the theory of mixed constitutions, which is considered to be one of the most important and influential ancient theories, since most constitutions of modern "democratic" states are based on this theory. Through the interpretation of selected passages from Plato's Laws, Aristotle's Politics, Polybius' History, and Cicero's On the State, we will explore how ancient thinkers understood the balance of power, the stability of the political system, and its resistance to decline. The seminar will offer a space for discussion of the relevance of these ideas in the contemporary political context.

Seminář se zaměří na četbu a analýzu klíčových textů k teorii smíšených ústav, která bývá považován za jednu z nejdůležitějších a nejvlivnějších antických teorií, neboť většina ústav moderních „demokratických“ států z této teorie vychází. Prostřednictvím interpretace vybraných pasáží z Platónových Zákonů, Aristotelovy Politiky, Polybiových Dějin a Ciceronova spisu O státě budeme zkoumat, jak antičtí myslitelé chápali rovnováhu moci, stabilitu politického systému a jeho odolnost vůči úpadku. Seminář nabídne prostor pro diskusi o aktuálnosti těchto myšlenek v současném politickém kontextu.
