JAMES JOYCE I: DUBLINERS & A PORTRAIT (Fall 2024, Tue 17:30-19:00, Room 34) David Vichnar, PhD (david.vichnar@ff.cuni.cz) (Office hours: by appointment, Room 219b) Optional M.A. Course Special Programme in Critical & Cultural Theory; Irish Cultural Studies Department of Anglophone Literatures and Cultures Faculty of Arts, Charles University, Prague The first half of a two-semester course surveying James Joyce's four crucial works. In the winter semester, we will cover via close reading of crucial passages a selection of the DUBLINERS stories, A PORTRAIT OF THE ARTIST AS A YOUNG MAN, and the opening three chapters of ULYSSES. All of these will be read in a complex critical context, with a selection of representative secondary criticism and theory provided.
