During the lessons, students will familiarise themselves with the basic terminology on migration, the international legal framework relevant to the protection of migrants, and the development of EU migration policies in primary as well as secondary law, with a special focus on the asylum agenda. Aside from giving presentations and participating in discussions, students will also put the theory into practice through the final refugee-officer role-playing game. |

To successfully complete this course, a student needs to: a) Give a presentation on the topic of own choice (10min, ppt/handout); 20p. b) Actively participate in the discussions (based on required readings and presentations); 20p. c) Submit a request for asylum (role: asylum seeker; 1 page); 20p. d) Participate in an asylum interview (roles: asylum seeker/officer; 2x10min); 20p. e) Submit a decision of an obtained asylum request (role: asylum officer; 1 page); 20p. f) Reach at least 50 % in categories a)-e); g) Not to be absent from more than 2 lessons as the attendance is mandatory.
Maximum points to get: 100 Minimum points to pass: 51 Range of grades: A: 100-91 B: 90-81 C: 80-71 D: 70-61 E: 60-51 F: 50 & less |

The course will have the form of a lecture/seminar. Each lesson will consist of: · Lecture by the lecturer · Presentations by the students · Discussion (based on required readings and presentation) All relevant materials, as well as course communication, will be managed through the Moodle 1 course called EU Migration Policies. |
