Cardiotoxicity represent an important adverse effect, which is not compatible with drugs used for less important health disorders. However, in the treatment of some more severe diseases, such as cancer, effective drugs are administred in order to cure the disease or to prolong the life duration. On the other hand, these drug can have severe, mostly late, adverse effects, which can include cardiovascular toxicity. Similarly, a row of illicit drugs (e.g. sympathomimetics such as cocaine) have significant and sometimes even fatal cardiovascular effects. The aim of this subject is to understand the known mechanism, by which drugs and other chemical entities damage the function of the cardiovascular system.
