The exam UNIcert II completes the programme UNIcert II – Academic English for Human and Social Studies. It focuses especially on active skills, i.e. writing and speaking, and at the same time also tests the receptive skills, i.e. listening and reading comprehension.

It is possible to register for the exam first after participating in at least 120 lessons of face to face lessons in courses of the Language Centre at Faculty of Arts, including the obligatory one-week course which takes place before the exam itself in the examination period of the summer semester. Under current conditions also distance learning is accpatable according to the conditions set for single courses.

The exam consists of two parts – written and oral.

Written part (60 points) – the whole written part is without a dictionary
- Listening comprehension (30 minutes – 10 points)
o 1 recording approx. 5 minutes, played twice
o 10 questions
- Reading comprehension (60 minutes – 20 points)
o 1—2 texts of 1200 – 1500 words
o 20 questions
- Writing (60 minutes – 30 points)
o one essay of 300 – 400 words
o choice of at least 3 topics

Oral part (40 points)
- two students take part at the same time, exceptionally one student only
- the examining board consits of two teachers from the Language Centre of the Faculty of Arts, Charles University
- the exam lasts 30 minutes, preparation time is also 30 minutes
- it focuses on the field of studies of the particular student and is supported with the texts from the human and social studies
- within the 30-minute preparation time the student gets a text which is relevant to their field of studies, of 1-2 standard pages
- the oral part consists of two parts
o presentation – 2 tasks
the student introduces him/herself, his/her field of studies, studies as such etc.
presentation of the text which the student prepares during the preparation time
o Interaction – 2 tasks
a dialogue between the two students about their field of studies and/or the text which the student introduced; in case there is only one student taking the exam,
the dialogue will be between the student and the examiner
a dialogue between the student and the examiner – based on the information from the text

- Fluency including the accuracy and correct pronunciation

- Interaction with the other student and the examiner

The preparation for the exam, or rather taking part in the programme, is realised through different courses offered by the Language Center FA CU, according to the students' choice. The sources, therefore, are set by the requriements of the particular courses.

Requirements to the exam -

UNIcert II is not only a certified exam, but it is a language programme, which requires obligatory attandency of at least 120 lessons in the courses offered by the Langauge Centre FA CU at the level B1+ and higher. This requirement does not include e-learning courses.

The course which takes part twice a week 90 minutes of face-to-face lessons = 52 lessons.

The course which is realised as blended learning, which means once a week 90 minutes of face-to-face lessons and ca. 90 minutes of online work = 52 lessons.

The course which takes part once a week 90 minutes of face-to-face lessons = 26 lessons.

The choice of the courses is up to the individual students.

At the end of the preparation it is necessary to take part in the course realised within the so-called CŽV progrmame - English. Intense preparaiton for the exam B2 and the certified exam UNIcert®II, which is realized within 4 days and which offers 16 lessons. This course is obligatory.
