Old Testament Exegesis -- Joseph, the Son of Israel (Gen 37 - 50)
An annual course in which students, under the guidance of the teacher, go through a "workshop" of biblical exegesis and the basics of biblical theology. The specific topics and texts are chosen each year on an actual basis, in relation to ongoing or recently completed projects of the teachers. By combining the forms of lecture and tutorial, students gradually acquire the principles and procedures of professional work in biblical studies - the analysis of Old Testament biblical texts in their literary and cultural-historical context, various methods of their interpretation and exposition, as well as the procedures of critical evaluation of the existing interpretive tradition in its plural and historical-contextual form. Students are expected to be actively engaged, knowledgeable in biblical Hebrew, and familiar with methods of biblical exegesis. Ongoing preparation of the texts to be discussed and study of recommended readings is expected for each class. Receipt of credit is contingent upon the acceptance of a paper (of 5-8 standard pages) on one of the subtopics or texts covered in the semester. Last update: Prudký Martin, prof., Dr. (12.09.2024)
