Annotation -

The course focuses on acquiring and practical use of essential academic skills necessary for the university environment, especially in the areas: presentation, CV, art of reasoning and the importance of international language exams. Students will learn to work with eRESOURCES available for the students of the Faculty of Education of Charles University. Furthermore, the vocabulary typical of academic English will be systematically expanded.

Course completion requirements -

The course requirements: you must give a presentation and pass a credit test (one additional resit possible).

The presentation may be given on either an article you have read or on your bachelor/master thesis. The presentation must be well-structured and contain proper vocabulary and grammar. The length shouldn´t exceed 10 minutes.

Syllabus - Czech

1. Úvod do akademické angličtiny, její náležitosti (slovní zásoba a gramatika), příklady a systematická praxe (práce s textem)

2. Práce se zdroji, seznámení se s dostupnými elektronickými databázemi. Analýza nalezených odborných textů a aplikování znalostí akademické angličtiny.

3. Prezentace a projev. Náležitosti prezentace a projevu, jejich tvorba s využitím znalostí akademické angličtiny.

4. Životopis a jeho náležitosti. Tvorba životopisu.

5. Úvod do mezinárodních certifikátů a jejich důležitost pro vysokoškolské prostředí.
