The course aims at introducing and describing the sound system of the English language on the segmental and suprasegmental level. The reference accent is General British. The main features of general American are also presented throughout the semester. In seminars selected topics are trained and transcription skills developped.

Cílem kurzu je představit a popsat fungování zvukové stránky anglického jazyka na segmentální a suprasegmentální úrovni. Výchozím akcentem je britský standard, průběžně jsou představovány i základní rysy americké standardní výslovnosti. V seminářích studenti trénují percepci a produkci problematických aspektů formou rozmanitých poslechových a výslovnostních cvičení a rozvíjejí transkripční dovednosti.
