The course returns to selected areas of English syntax, aiming to deepen and enhance the students’ understanding of these areas as well as their practical application. The students are encouraged to analyse texts independently, and explore the grammatical relations both at the sentential and suprasentential level. Topics: 1.Verb valency, divergences between English and Czech 2.Dependent clauses (problematic areas) 3.Complex condensation (nominalisation, non-finite clauses) 4.Functional sentence perspective: factors, functions, and means 5.Complex syntactic analysis of a text
