The aim of this course is to introduce a selection of contemporary literary trends, categories and notions. The lectures focus on theoretical points of departure of postmodern British literature, American literature, postcolonial literature, as well as some tendencies in children?s literature of the English-speaking countries (especially the controversial question of the canon). Students will work with texts by theoreticians such as Brian McHale, Linda Hutcheon, Patricia Waugh, Michel Foucault, Stephen Greenblatt and Edward Said.

Cílem kurzu je přiblížení vybraných literárně teoretických trendů, kategorií a pojmů. Přednáška se soustředí především na teoretická východiska postmoderní britské literatury, americké literatury, postkoloniální literatury a některých tendencí v dětské literatuře anglicky hovořících zemí (především kontroverzní otázka kánonu). Na konkrétních textech seznámí s ontologickým vymezením postmodernismu Briana McHaila, pojetím parodie Lindy Hutcheonové, metafikcí Patricie Waughové. Záběr teoretických odkazů však bude daleko širší a bude zahrnovat základní charakteristiku teorie diskursu Michela Foucaulta, z něhož vychází nový historismus? (Stephen Greenbtatt a jeho čtení Shakespeara) i postkoloniální teorie (Edward Said).
